Same old politics

Caught this on the Sunlight Foundation's indispensable "Party Time" website, which tracks political fundraisers. Grimm is supposed to be in Washington this week for "orientation," but on Monday night, he's having a "debt retirement reception" at the Capitol Hill Club.

All the details are here: http://politicalpartytime.org/party/24012

A "debt retirement reception" is particularly odd, given that Grimm's campaign is not in debt, according to the Federal Election Commission. Records show that Grimm spent $900,325 on the campaign, but took in $925,233 — leaving him with about $25,000 in cash on hand.

Still, for Monday night's fundraiser, there are three categories of contributor ($500, $1,000 or $2,500).

  • Contribution Information: $2,500 Host; $1,000 PAC; $500 Individual
  • Make Checks Payable To: Michael Grimm for Congress - 104 Hume Avenue Alexandria, VA 22301
  • RSVP: Megan Foran; 703-683-7500; mforan@epiphanyproductions.com

By the way, according to Yelp.com, "The Capitol Hill Club is the premier Republican political club located one block from the US Capitol." Other posters say that there's a huge portrait of Bush Sr. as you enter. Grimm should feel very much at home.
